Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th July our local U13 boys tournament was held at Archer Stadium in Gore. The boys put in a massive effort both days winning one of our games 68-20, and not quite getting there in the other 2 games with losses of 30 points respectively. Fantastic to see some of our hard work at training pay off.
With plenty to work on we continued training weekly before setting off for our next tournament at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin - Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th September. We noticed a large improvement in the team since Gore tournament, particularly in our defense. Dunedin being our first away tournament was a great experience for our team who had a blast with playing 1v1 at a nearby school until dark, multiple trips to the dairy, time relaxing at the beach after games, and a swim and hydroslide at Moana Pool to finish the tournament. Thank You Basketball Otago for a great tournament.
With an invite to Canterbury Basketball's B grade tournament we selected a team of 7 and travelled to Christchurch Friday 28th September for 5 games over the Saturday and Sunday. Our team took this to a new level and were highly competitive in all our games showing some fantastic combinations on the court and posting our highest game scores.
We continued to see major improvements throughout the tournament and were delighted to have several parents and coaches from other teams congratulate us on how we were playing. Christchurch was the first time for us seeing Glory League in action - a tablet for recording the scoring and controlling automated video where we can watch back the entire game or highlights per player. Thank You Canterbury Basketball - your tournament has been the highlight of our season.
We would like to say a massive Thank You to Eastern Basketball and MLT for their support in getting our boys to tournament, Gore Night N Day who very kindly supplied our team with gear bags, drink bottles and some goodies for the game, our manager Colleen and Christchurch manager Paddy, Andrea and Paddy doing bench duty, Sara and Matt for the live game updates for all parents who couldn't make tournament and all the parents who assisted with travel, supplying food and making these tournaments happen for our team.
